Workshop | Sylvie Tourangeau — How is Your Sense of the Performative?

9:30AM to 1:30PM

Studio 303 - 372, rue Ste Catherine Ouest, Montréal

OBJECTIVE

– To be in contact with a constant presence;

– To develop an attitude, presence, and performative structure in a series of momentary actions;

– To develop unique strategies of listening, perception, and intervention in relation to one’s artistic practice and the performative;

– To develop our way of sensing and experiencing reality, engaging in actions that move beyond logical thinking and one-dimensional perception;

– To be transformed by what arises while expanding our fields of artistic experience.

CONTENT

Through centering exercises, observation, expression, authentic presence, role-playing, individual work, short solo presentations, coaching moments, and using various objects related to creative processes, you will be able to gather and sustain the continuity necessary to actualize your sense of the performative.

The activities and theoretical concepts of this workshop draw inspiration from the basic principles of the performative mode and other forms of contemporary art, such as performance art, relational, ambulatory, contextual, infiltrative, and stealth practices. The position of the artist as a witness becomes a catalytic and transformative agent in this state of openness to value.

The performative approach develops a dynamic way of entering into dialogue with time, space, the body, and other components of reality through spontaneous decisions and actions.
