Workshop : Jordan Brown – Performing Craft

Objective

In this laboratory, participants explore puppetry, collage, ritualized action, and material transformations to develop their own performing objects using a variety of techniques.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own objects, practices, and skills to the session.

Content

Each class will begin with a warm up that activates the link between body and mind. Participants will then be guided through creative prompts that think through various themes centered around the relationship between material, ritual action and embodiment.

We will play dress-up, perform duets with objects, and create props and masks. Readings, artist studies and group discussions will ground our practice.

The full session will end with an informal performance showing and/or show and tell.
