Explore in depth the notion of dramaturgy in dance with your peers in this unique workshop combining group discussions and performative exercises.

Based on dialogue between Katya Montaignac and Angélique Willkie, Dramaturgy Club proposes a space of exchange both performative and reflective, centered around practices involving the body in motion. Collective cartographies, sharing of readings, practical explorations, this workshop offers a space of co-construction of the knowledge of dramaturgy as a tool of creation.
The workshops proposes the following avenues of reflection:
- Dramaturgy as relational mode (anchored in an ecology of creation).
- Political dimension of dramaturgical relationship: how to create / collaborate together (according to which basis / models that exist or to be constantly re-invented ?).
- Questioning the role of the dramaturge (what exactly does dramaturge “mean”).
- Reassessing our relationships to time and to work (dramaturgy as vector of deconstructions and transformations)
Each day will be a combination of group discussions and performative exercises involving the body in motion. The discussions will be supported by readings and testimonials. The exercises will be invitations to exchange and could easily be adapted according to the physical capacities of each participant and according to their inspiration and mood.

Artists of all disciplines.
As dance artist and dramaturge, Katya Montaignac creates and collaborates on choreographic projects that she likes to call “unidentified dancing objects”. Through in situ and participative works, in(ter)disciplinary seminars and performative banquets, her approach engages in a practice of invitation and dialogue through the use of a diversity of bodies and voices. PhD in arts studies and practices, she teaches and writes about dance (De la glorieuse fragilité : l’Abécédaire ; Tribunes sur la danse).
Angélique Willkie pursued a career as a singer in Europe for more than 25 years, then became a dramaturg working in the dance and circus productions. Also a teacher, is Associate Professor of Contemporary Dance at Montreal’s Concordia University and a doctoral student in Arts Studies and Practices at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). Her PhD research focuses on the dramaturgy of the performing body and on decolonial dramaturgies.
