During this class, Laurie-Anne Langis will introduce you to Kalaripayattu, one of the oldest martial arts in the world, originating from southern India. There are very dynamic movements, some close to the ground, others consecutive and composed of big jumps, leg kicks and lunges.

This millennial approach is perfect for improving muscular and cardiovascular endurance, as well as agility, strength, power, flexibility, balance and coordination. In addition, exercises promoting the activation of breathing and concentration make it a mediation in movements that promotes the connection between consciousness and the body.

The class will begin with a general warm-up from both Tai Chi, Qi Gong and Yoga, followed by the vadivu – postures inspired by the animal kingdom: the elephant, the horse, the lion, the cat, the snake, the rooster etc. It will continue with the Meippayattu – sequences whose goal is to make the body strong and agile.

Maximum capacity: 20 people

Suggested Material: comfortable clothes, knee pads (if needed)

Laurie-Anne Langis has been performing in Quebec and internationally for 10 years now. Through ancestral knowledge such as meditation, martial arts, voice work and yoga, she develops a transdisciplinary and multisensory approach.

Laurie-Anne tries to leave room for the full expressiveness of each person and to meet the other beyond their form. Committed, she works on various projects around the theme of gender, the reappropriation of her body and her word.

The Regroupement québécois de la danse Montréal classes are made possible through the financial support of the Gouvernement du Québec and Compétence Culture, comité sectoriel de main-d’œuvre en culture.
