Avec humour et une présence scénique d’une grande virtuosité, le charismatique Jan Martens propose un autoportrait sous forme de collage. Le chorégraphe nous invite dans son processus de création, modifiant chaque soir son canevas en se lançant de nouveaux défis : être drôle et provocant à la fois, contacter un ami, trouver une fin kitsch… Déployant une large palette chorégraphique, il tend un miroir à sa génération et souligne ce besoin constant de sauter d’une chose à l’autre, de ne jamais rester en place.

With humour and virtuosic stagecraft, the charismatic Jan Martens offers a self-portrait under the form of a collage. The choreographer invites us into his creative process, changing each night his canvas and giving himself new challenges: to be funny and provocative, to contact a friend, to find a cheesy ending to the piece. Deploying a wide choreographic palette, he puts a mirror up to his generation and underscores the constant need to jump from one thing to another, to never stay put.

BIS
BIS a été créé pour et avec la danseuse Truus Bronkhorst, célébrité décoiffante de la danse aux Pays-Bas dans les années 1980-1990. Continuer sans jamais abandonner : ce solo distille la douleur, la peur et la perte pour en extraire l’essence de la performance. BIS se reçoit comme une oeuvre à fleur de peau, d’une impitoyable humanité.
Depuis sa sortie du Conservatoire Royal d’Anvers en 2006, Jan Martens a conquis au pas de charge les plateaux internationaux et le coeur des spectateurs avec plusieurs oeuvres marquantes. Ses créations portent un regard tendre sur l’imperfection humaine.

BIS was created by and for the dancer Truus Bronkhorst, a dance celebrity in the Netherlands in the 1980s and 1990s. Carrying on without ever giving up is the theme of this solo piece, distilling pain, fear and loss, in order to extract the elixir of the performance. BIS is a work of unforgiving humanity that gives the audience chills.
Since graduating from the Antwerp Royal Conservatory in 2006, Jan Martens has conquered stages internationally and the hearts of audience members with several outstanding works. His creations take a tender look at human imperfections.
