En tant que chorégraphes, une de nos préoccupations premières est d’encourager les interprètes à se réinventer constamment, dans leur individualité et dans leur mouvement. Comment peut-on prendre des décisions claires et improvisées avec notre matériel qui permettent qu’une vraie partie de nous-mêmes demeure sur la surface, disponible tant pour nous que pour notre public? Nous allons débuter chaque journée en divisant le corps en segment, travaillant avec de multiples points d’initiation pour créer clarté, confusion et de nouvelles combinaisons pour le mouvement. Les premières deux journées de l’atelier porteront sur du matériel qui est actuellement en développement. Ensuite, l’atelier se penchera sur l’appropriation d’outils créatifs et d’exercices qui encouragera les participant-es à créer, développer et retravailler leur propre matériel. À travers ces développements, nous allons encourager la spécificité et la précision dans le mouvement multi-initiativea tout en travaillant à cultiver une conscience spatiale et de la présence et de l’intention individuelle.

Fondée en 2011 par Emily Gualtieri et David Albert-Toth, la compagnie montréalaise Parts+Labour_Dance a pour mandat de créer des expériences physiquement engageantes. Leurs œuvres portent sur des questions d’identité et de moralité : comment nous définissons-nous en relation au monde qui nous entoure, en fonction, ou encore malgré celui-ci? Ce duo cherche constamment à plonger plus profondément dans la formulation, la création et la présentation d’œuvres chorégraphiques contemporaines. Un intérêt sous-jacent pour les états transformateurs et leurs effets sur le corps en mouvement est au cœur de leur travail, accompagné d’un désir de redéfinir les partenariats dans divers modes de création. Parts+Labour_Danse s’est produite à travers le Canada. Son répertoire inclut The Calculated Risk Project (2011), In Mixed Company (2013) (Gagnant du prix Coup de pouce, festival VSLR 2015), le solo La chute (2013), l’un des moments en danse les plus marquants de 2013 de la publication The Dance Current et gagnant du Prix du public du festival Dance : Made in Canada en 2015 et La vie attend (2017), une coproduction de Danse-Cité présenté au théâtre La Chapelle. La compagnie est actuellement en création de nouvelles pièces qui seront diffusées au cours de la prochaine année.

As choreographers, one of our primary preoccupations is to encourage dancers to constantly reinvest in their own individuality in movement. How can you make clear, improvised decisions with material that allow for a real part of yourself to remain at the surface, available to yourself and to your audience? We will begin each day with a warm-up dividing the body into segments, working with multi-initiation points to create clarity, confusion, and new combinations for movement. The first two days of the workshop will focus on material that is currently living and being developed by the choreographers, before spending the rest of the workshop appropriating creative tools and exercises that will encourage the participants to create, develop, and remix their own material. Through these developments, we will encourage specificity and precision in multi-initiative movement all while working at cultivating spacial awareness and individual intention and presence.

Since being founded in 2011 by co-creators Emily Gualtieri and David Albert-Toth, Montreal- based Parts+Labour_Danse has held the mandate to invest in creating physically engaging experiences. Their work is preoccupied by questions of identity and morality: how do we define ourselves in relation to, in spite of, or as a result of the world around us? The duo continuously seeks to dive deeper into the formulation, creation, and presentation of contemporary dance, bringing these questions into their creative process. An underlying interest in transformative states and their effect on the body in movement are presently at the core of their focus. This interest is complemented by a desire to redefine partnerships in different modes of creation. To date, the company has presented its work extensively throughout Canada. Its repertoire includes The Calculated Risk Project (2010), In Mixed Company (2013) (Coup de pouce prize winner, VSLR Festival 2015), La chute (2013), noted as one of 2013’s top ten Canadian moments in dance by The Dance Current and winner of the Audience Choice Award at Toronto’s Dance: Made In Canada Festival in 2015, and La vie attend (2017) co-produced by Danse-Cité and presented by La Chapelle. They are currently involved in several new creations that will premiere over the next year.
