Gabrielle Bertrand-Lehouillier

Chorégraphe, Travailleur.se culturel.le, Interprète

With a background in classical piano, a double DEC in literature, cinema, drama, and dance, and a bachelor’s degree in contemporary dance from UQÀM, Gabrielle is an artist who explores emotion and the movement that follows. Fascinated by conscious presence through performance and the impact of music on the dancing body, she invites the audience into a theatrical choreographic world marked by delicacy and the unexpected.

As a solo artist, she created and performed two pieces at Tangente danse in Montreal (Naïve, 2016; La Paix dans le Monde, 2017) that showcase her sensitive, intimate, and playful choreographic vocabulary.

As a performer, she collaborates with Sarah Dell’Ava and Les Berceurs du temps, Compagnie de danse Axile, and Pirata Théâtre. She is also a choreographer-performer, member of the Collectif Danse To Go since 2014, with whom she explores the intimate relationship with the audience through the in situ performances « Danse de Marché » and « Corpocalyptique ».

Because she firmly believes that art can change the world, she has also been working as a cultural worker since 2020 with Théâtre Aux Écuries, moveo magazine, and La danse sur les routes du Québec.

As a complement to her artistic and cultural practice, she is interested in socio-ecological transition, writing, and the practice of Authentic Movement. She is convinced that beyond our various communities of thought, we first and foremost form a community of bodies and emotions.
