Accounting Technician

As a presenter of performing arts and manager of Salle Jean-Grimaldi, Théâtre Desjardins has been a major cultural organization in Montréal’s Southwest region for over 30 years, offering a multidisciplinary program alongside a variety of private events. Located within Cégep André-Laurendeau in LaSalle, the organization thrives in a dynamic and welcoming environment.

We are a non-profit organization seeking a friendly and committed individual to join our administrative team as an Accounting Technician. Reporting to the Executive Director, the successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day management of accounting operations.

Main Responsibilities

  • Enter supplier invoices into Sage 50 and prepare payments;
  • Prepare customer invoices, follow up on accounts receivable, process payments, and manage collections;
  • Manage cash floats, prepare deposits, and order change as required;
  • Record revenues (ticket sales, bar sales, rentals, and other sources);
  • Perform journal entries and maintain general bookkeeping records;
  • Carry out bank reconciliations;
  • Produce monthly financial statements, participate in budget monitoring, and assist with the preparation of the annual budget;
  • Prepare and submit T4A slips and various government reports;
  • Manage cash flow;
  • Process payroll bi-weekly, prepare union remittances, and generate related reports;
  • Create and maintain employee files;
  • Produce reports, analyses, and statistics, and support grant application writing;
  • Prepare quarterly tax returns;
  • Prepare and document year-end files for external auditors;
  • Develop and/or update forms related to accounting operations;
  • Maintain accounting databases and filing systems;
  • Ensure internal communications related to their area of responsibility;
  • Perform any other tasks required to support the Theatre’s activities.

Education

  • Completed AEC or DEC in Accounting.

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a similar role.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of the full accounting cycle and payroll processing;
  • High level of discretion and integrity;
  • Strong attention to detail, autonomy, initiative, and analytical skills;
  • Excellent planning and organizational abilities, with the capacity to manage priorities effectively;
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and good knowledge of Microsoft 365;
  • Experience with Sage 50 and the Employeur D platform;
  • Excellent written and spoken French;
  • Knowledge of accounting practices within a cultural non-profit organization is considered an asset.
