A short, highly practical course to learn more about the tax rules governing non-profit organizations

This course is primarily intended for workers in the cultural sector who wish to gain a basic understanding of taxation for non-profit organizations (NPOs), as well as useful knowledge for their day-to-day management.

Designed with the specific realities of cultural-sector NPOs in mind, the course will use concrete examples to introduce their main tax obligations and the tax treatment of certain common transactions. Philippe Beaulieu will also address responsibilities related to sales taxes, tax slips and required tax returns.

Objectives

Understand the main tax obligations of an NPO.
Recognize situations in which taxes must be collected or remitted, or may be recovered.
Better understand the tax treatment of certain common transactions.
Distinguish between the main types of tax slips based on the nature of the amounts paid.
Identify the main tax returns and tax documents that must be filed.

Required Equipment

A computer with a camera.
A headset with a microphone if you are in an environment where there may be background noise.
A high-speed Internet connection.

Course Format

The course will be delivered live online via Zoom.
The session will not be recorded or made available for replay.
Participants are required to remain at their computers for the entire session.

Managers, administrators and workers of cultural organizations.

Instructor

A member of the Ordre des comptables professionnels agréés du Québec since 2004, Philippe Beaulieu, MBA, CPA auditor, CA, runs his own arts management firm. Among other services, he provides administrative support and tax advice to artists, cultural workers and organizations in the cultural sector.
