CQT – Pooling Knowledge and Resources: Resource Sharing
Take a methodical and clear-eyed approach to resource sharing to make the most of it.
Many artists and arts organizations today face a lack of resources to carry out their projects. Not only is the necessary staff not always available, but financial resources are also insufficient to operate in a sustainable way over the long term. Artists and organizations alike are being compelled to rethink their practices and diversify the ways they work.
Fortunately, collaborative practices can help break isolation and strengthen our capacity to act. An African proverb says that if you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together. But working together is something that must be learned!
In this six-hour training course, you will become familiar with the key concepts of resource sharing and the various stages involved in pooling resources, helping you address the essential questions: why, how and what should you share? Through reflection and planning tools, concrete examples of resource-sharing initiatives and firsthand testimony from someone who has experienced such a process, you will be better equipped to assess whether resource sharing is right for you or your organization, identify potential partners and consider projects suited to your reality.
By the end of the training, you will have a better understanding of the possibilities, conditions for success and challenges associated with resource sharing. You will be better equipped to determine where your organization stands in relation to such an approach, assess its relevance, and identify opportunities for sharing resources and potential partners, while preserving your artistic autonomy.

- Identify the forms of resource sharing best suited to specific needs and contexts.
- Identify potential partners and explore possible complementarities.
- Use reflection and planning tools to structure a resource-sharing process.
- Recognize the communication challenges inherent in collective processes and organizational change.
Who is this training for?
Independent artists, managers and cultural workers who are considering whether collaborative practices could strengthen their ability to pursue their artistic practice, fulfill their mission or carry out their projects. The only prerequisite is a willingness to engage in constructive discussions with colleagues and to contribute your creativity or experience to the group.
Instructor
A consultant, manager, researcher, instructor and artist, George Krump has worked in the arts and culture sector for more than thirty years. He has carried out mandates for dozens of organizations and institutions in areas including cultural and organizational development, human resources, strategic planning, and the synergies created between organizations that collaborate or share resources.
He is also President and Co-founder of La Machinerie des arts and the author of the Petit guide orange du partage des ressources et de la mutualisation (Little Orange Guide to Resource Sharing and Pooling).
