Entre le rituel libératoire et le folklore alpin, cette oeuvre de Simon Mayer nous transporte sur la place d’un village quelque part dans le Tyrol. Progressivement, il nous entraîne dans un Schuhplattler avec sa bande, écaillant le vernis paysan et nous révélant l’héritage sous l’angle de l’émancipation. Avec humour et audace, le chorégraphe porte un autre regard sur la tradition et ce qu’elle dit du rapport au pays. L’occasion de découvrir ce jeune prodige autrichien.

Danseur, chorégraphe, performeur et musicien, Simon Mayer a grandi dans une ferme avant d’effectuer sa formation au Ballet de l’Opéra national de Vienne puis à P.A.R.T.S. Il danse pour Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Wim Vandekeybus et Zita Swoon puis développe son propre travail. Ses créations, à mi-chemin entre la danse contemporaine, les danses issues du folklore autrichien, la musique électronique et les chants traditionnels yodels, sont présentées à travers le monde.

Between rituals of emancipation and alpine folklore, this work by Simon Mayer transports us to a village somewhere in Tyrol. Progressively, he draws us into a Schuhplattler with his posse, scratching the surface of his peasant roots, revealing the meaning of heritage within the framework of liberation. With humour and audacity, the choreographer takes a fresh look at tradition and what it says about his country, giving us an opportunity to discover this Austrian prodigy.

Dancer, choreographer, performer and musician, Simon Mayer grew up on a farm before studying at the Ballet of the National Opera in Vienna, and then later at P.A.R.T.S. He danced for Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Wim Vandekeybus and Zita Swoon before developing his own work. His creations, halfway between contemporary dance, Austrian folk dances, electronic music and traditional yodels are presented around the world.
