Cet atelier de mouvement explore les théories émergentes de la biologie sur les fascias à travers la pratique physique et performative de la partition. Il s’agit, en quelque sorte, d’un atelier d’entraînement en sensibilités fasciales. Je m’intéresse à savoir comment les pratiques artistiques peuvent s’imbriquer avec la biologie pour donner naissance à des corps qui ne sont pas universels et éternels, mais plutôt situés, relationnels et en processus. Est-ce que l’utilisation de méthodes artistiques pour s’intéresser aux compréhensions actuelles du corps biologique peuvent permettre l’émergence de réalités corporelles, allant à l’encontre de l’hypothèse courante des sciences biologiques que nous progressons vers une compréhension totale du corps humain?
Kevin O’Connor est un artiste multidisciplinaire qui travaille comme chorégraphe, interprète, improvisateur, artiste de cirque et d’installation. Né à Ottawa, il est présentement basé à San Francisco. Kevin participe depuis une décennie à un petit collectif artistique de performance décoloniale et participative qui oeuvre au sein des bassins versants pollués en Ontario. Il a travaillé avec NAKA Dance à Oakland, Shakiri and Skywatchers à San Francisco, le collectif féministe Oncogrrrls en Espagne et a collaboré avec la designer et chasseuse inuite Paulette Metuq sur un projet au Nunavut, dans l’Arctique canadien. Depuis plus de dix ans, il suit l’enseignement de la communauté Axis Syllabus et est un praticien de thérapie craniosacrale biodynamique. Il détient une maîtrise en chorégraphie et travaille présentement vers un doctorat en études de performance à l’Université de Californie, Davis. Sa recherche examine les autonomies, les capacités de la performance du corps et les interventions et imaginations en relation avec les études scientifiques, incluant le matériel bioculturel nommé fascia.

This is a movement workshop exploring the emergent biological claims of fascia through the performance practice of scoring. The goal is to explore scientific and practitioner-based studies of fascia by putting them into movement. This could be described as kind of training in fascia sense-abilities. I am curious in how art practices can engage with biology to birth bodies that are not timeless and universal, but situated, relational and in process. Can using art methods to engage with emerging biological understanding of the body allow for corpo-realities to emerge that work against the commonly held assumption that, as a result of the accumulation of knowledge grounded in the biological sciences, we are making progress toward a full understanding of the human body?
Kevin O’Connor is a multidisciplinary artist working as a choreographer, dancer, improviser, circus artist and installation artist from Ontario, Canada and now based in the Bay area. He is involved in a decade-long artistic collective exploring participatory de-colonizing performances within polluted watersheds in Ontario. Over the last few years, he has worked with NAKA dance in Oakland, Shakiri and Skywatchers in the Bay Area, Oncogrrrls feminist art collective in Spain, and collaborated with Inuit hunter and designer Paulette Metuq on a project in Nunavut in the Canadian Arctic. He has been learning with the Axis Syllabus community for over a decade and is a biodynamic Cranio Sacral practitioner. He completed an MFA in choreography and is currently finishing a Phd in performance studies at UC Davis. HIs research examines anatomies, body performance capacities, interventions and imaginations in relation to science studies, including the material-bio-cultural tissue called fascia.
