Biographie

Danseuse professionnelle, professeur et chorégraphe de Bharata Natyam, Ginette Dion étudie depuis 1990 auprès de M. Jai Govinda, directeur de la Jai Govinda Dance Academy, à Vancouver. En plus d'avoir ajouté deux cordes à son arc par l'obtention d'un baccalauréat en danse moderne de l'UQÀM en 2001 et par une formation de professeur de yoga au Centre de Yoga Iyengar de Montréal, elle continue de se perfectionner en Bharata Natyam en se rendant en Inde pour étudier, entre autre, avec Mme Jayalakshmi Eshwar, directrice de l'Abhinayaa School of Dance à New Delhi. Reconnue tant sur la scène canadienne que sur la scène indienne, elle a notamment participé au Festival International de danse de l'Inde Kala Nidhi à Toronto en 1999, et elle a été invitée à se produire en tant que danseuse soliste en Inde au Centre de Shilpgram, à Khajuraho en 2001 et à Habitat Centre, à New Delhi en 2000 et en 2004. En 2005, Ginette Dion  fondait SATTVIKA DANSE, dans le but de poursuivre sa démarche artistique et de faire connaître son art au plus grand nombre de gens. Elle a donc produit plusieurs spectacles de Bharata Natyam, dont récemment Dieux et Déesses (juin 2011)  Bhumi Pranam (2010-2009-2008) et Krishna, le joueur de flûte en 2008. Parallèlement, elle poursuit sa recherche d'un nouveau vocabulaire gestuel qui puise dans l'essence du Bharata Natyam pour donner vie à une danse personnelle et contemporaine.

GINETTE DION is a professional Bharata Natyam dancer, teacher and choreographer. Since 1990, she has been studying with Mr. Jai Govinda of the Vancouver Jai Govinda Dance Academy. She also completed a BA in Modern Dance at the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM) in 2001 and a teacher's training at the Iyengar Yoga Centre in Montreal (Centre de Yoga Iyengar de Montréal). She continued her Bharata Natyam training in India with Mrs. Jayalakshmi Eshwar, director of the Abhinayaa School of Dance in New Delhi and more recently, with Mrs. Smita Mahajan and M. Parimal Phadke in Pune. Having gained recognition both in Canada and in India, she participated in the Kala Nidhi International Dance Festival in Toronto in 1999 and was invited to give a solo performance at the Shilpgram Centre in Khajuraho, India, in 2001 and at the Habitat Centre in New Delhi, in 2000 and again in 2004. In order to pursue her artistic expression and make her art more available to the general public, Ginette founded SATTVIKA DANSE in March 2005. She then produced several Bharata Natyam shows including Bhumi Pranam a tribute to the earth and Krishna, the flute player in 2008. At the same time, she continues her personal research for an original gestural vocabulary drawing its source in Bharata Natyam to give renewed life to a personal and contemporary form of dance.
