CNESST coverage in case of injury: A right guaranteed to dancers by law

© cszar – VisualHunt

Let’s say that you, as a dancer, land a plum contract and are anxious to sign on the dotted line. It’s important to take the time, beforehand, to ensure that the contract includes a clause to cover you in case of injury: The Act respecting industrial accidents and occupational diseases protects you in the event of an employment injury and stipulates that the producer must assume the cost of your coverage.

If an accident occurs and prevents you from performing while you are under contract, your fee will be guaranteed and your medical care covered, at no cost to you. The CNESST has prepared a useful summary article you can refer to in order to ensure that the producer is aware of their obligations and that your rights are exercised under the contract. For further information concerning occupational health and safety, please read the Resources section of our website, and do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
