MAYDAY

MAYDAY is a platform for exchange and reflection for the artists who surround Mélanie Demers. They are as dazzling as they are eclectic and contribute to the maturation of the work, which is always a collective effort. The company's work is characterized by a physicality, rhythm, and accumulation of images that are unique to MAYDAY and find resolution in the encounter with the audience.
Since its creation in 2007, the company has been involved in numerous international collaborations and has performed in the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa. In 2015, its creation WOULD won the CALQ Award for Best Choreographic Work at the Prix de la danse de Montréal. The following year, Animal Triste (2016) and Icône Pop (2016) toured around the world. After the success of the ambitious Danse Mutante (2019) project on stage, La Goddam Voie Lactée (2021), Confession Publique (2021) and Cabaret Noir (2022) took center stage at various prestigious venues and festivals. In 2021, Mélanie Demers received the GRAND PRIX de la danse de Montréal, recognizing the unique mark she has left on her era. The following year, she received the CALQ Award for Best Choreography for Confession Publique, and Angélique Willkie received the Award for Best Performance for the same work at the 2022 Montreal Dance Awards ceremony.
In 2025, Mélanie Demers was the recipient of the Molson Prize from the Canada Council for the Arts.
