ABOUT TANGENTE
Active since 1980, Tangente presents an annual program from September to May in its two intimate, variable-geometry venues, featuring contemporary dance creations presented to the public for the first time. Tangente presents emerging practices in a variety of contemporary aesthetics, and supports the next generation in their professionalization.
For an emerging choreographer, being presented by Tangente means benefiting from the human and rigorous support of Tangente’s 15-strong team. In addition to offering unique programming, the Tangente team provides support over several months to emerging artists in line with their respective expertise.
JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Production Manager, the person will be responsible for planning, organizing and ensuring the smooth running of all technical and administrative operations in the technical department. He/she looks at the year as a whole and determines the high versus low points, and plans human resources and their schedules accordingly. She manages the technical department’s budget and monitors it on a monthly basis. She implements tools to improve follow-up and priority management.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
– Supervise technical and administrative operations: ensure the quality, safety and efficiency of technical activities in the hall, and the smooth running of shows and events.
– Accompany artists: supervise and offer pedagogical and technical support to choreographers and their teams, from programming through to the presentation of their creations in theatres, and plan their schedules in theatres.
– Manage the team: supervise and offer pedagogical and technical support to the two assistant technical directors and stage managers, and to the stage technicians; manage the department’s technical staff, equipment, schedules and budget.
– Manage shared rooms and spaces in consultation with our partner and co-owner l’Agora de la danse regarding facilities, rentals, joint projects and equipment.
– Ensure technical maintenance and development: plan needs, purchases, room rentals and equipment maintenance.
– All other tasks required for the deployment and outreach of the organization.
PROFILE AND EXPERIENCE
– Training in stage management and technique, or equivalent
– A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a similar position in the performing arts milieu, in the field of creative dance an asset
– Experience in personnel management, customer service and project management
– Good knowledge of electricity, lighting systems, sound systems, video and rigging, video and rigging, and ability to read and analyze technical plans
– Collaborative leadership, thoroughness, organizational and planning skills
– Ability to communicate, pass on knowledge and work as part of a team
Ability to work on several files simultaneously and find ingenious and creative solutions
– Current knowledge of health and safety regulations
– Fluency in spoken and written French and English
