Do you want to have an impact on the development of your neighborhood? Are you interested in arts and culture? The Quartier culturel des Faubourgs is looking for six people to join its committee.

The Quartier culturel des Faubourgs Committee

The Quartier culturel des Faubourgs, located around the Ontario East Street axis, is launching a call for applications to join the committee responsible for its development.

The committee’s mandate is to ensure the deployment of the Quartier culturel des Faubourgs by facilitating the emergence of initiatives that reflect the vitality and diversity of the area, led by its key stakeholders in a co-creation approach. Your role as a committee member

  • Be an ambassador of local culture
  • Attend the Quartier culturel annual meeting
  • Be available to contribute 35 to 40 hours annually to the project:
  • Participate in a minimum of 10 committee meetings, in addition to subcommittee meetings*
  • Participate in special projects of the Quartier culturel des Faubourgs

*All committee and subcommittee meetings of the Quartier culturel des Faubourgs take place on weekdays during the day, usually between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Committee Member Term

  • Committee terms are 24 months with the possibility of renewal.

Committee Composition

The committee is composed of twelve neighborhood representatives:

  • Chair of the Board of Directors and the Executive Director of Voies culturelles des faubourgs
  • One member from the Ville-Marie borough
  • One member from the CDC Centre Sud (community sector)
  • Cultural presenter
  • Cultural organization
  • Business/commerce
  • Visual arts artist
  • Education and school sector
  • Citizen – first seat
  • Citizen – second seat
  • Performing arts artist
  • Profile Sought

To fill the six committee seats up for election this year, we are looking for representatives for the following positions:

As a representative of an organization or business:

BUSINESS

  • Work in a business located within the Quartier culturel des Faubourgs perimeter* for at least 1 year.

CULTURAL PRESENTER

  • Work in a cultural presentation organization located within the Quartier culturel des Faubourgs perimeter* for at least 1 year.

CULTURAL ORGANIZATION

  • Work in a cultural organization located within the Quartier culturel perimeter* for at least 1 year.

EDUCATION AND SCHOOL SECTOR

  • Work for a school, training center, or educational daycare located within the Quartier culturel des Faubourgs perimeter*,
  • or
  • Be a parent member of the parent committee or school board of a school, training center, or educational daycare located within the Quartier culturel des Faubourgs perimeter.
  • In both cases, an annual honorarium of $800 will be offered to the elected person.

As an individual:

CITIZEN

  • Reside within the Quartier culturel des Faubourgs perimeter* for at least 1 year.
  • An annual honorarium of $800 will be offered to the elected person.

VISUAL ARTS ARTIST

  • Reside or work within the Quartier culturel des Faubourgs perimeter* for at least 1 year.
  • Hold professional artist status**.
  • An annual honorarium of $800 will be offered.

*The perimeter of the Quartier culturel des Faubourgs is located between Saint-Hubert and Lespérance streets, Sherbrooke East Street, and De Maisonneuve East Boulevard. (See map)

**We recognize professional artist status according to the definition in the Professional Status of the Artist Act of the Quebec Ministry of Culture and Communications.

Information Session

An in-person information session will be held on September 17, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Espace Libre to present the Quartier culturel des Faubourgs project and answer questions related to the committee.

Selection Process

  • August 19 – September 24 at noon — Application period. Fill out the application form: https://forms.office.com/r/Q7tcCUAggB
  • September 17, 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. — Information session at Espace Libre
  • October 1 – October 9 — Candidate campaign period. All applications will be posted online at quartiercultureldesfaubourgs.ca

The election will take place during the Quartier culturel des Faubourgs Evening on October 9 at the Écomusée du fier monde (2050 rue Atateken, Montreal):
All candidates will be presented on screen (candidates will also be invited to present on stage with the evening’s host).
All attendees who live or work within the Quartier culturel des Faubourgs area can vote for their preferred candidates in each category.
