What is La Machinerie des arts?

La Machinerie is a service hub dedicated to the performing arts. It pools resources, tools, and expertise to support artists and organizations. The organization fosters a culture of networking, offers personalized services, supports project development, and initiates activities that encourage sustainable, ethical, and inclusive management of artistic practices.

Why take on the role of Executive Director at La Machinerie des arts?

Under the authority of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director ensures the organization’s strategic vision, oversees the relevance of its services, and supports its overall vitality. They act as the main liaison for partners, lead strategic orientations, supervise operations and the team (composed of three employees and numerous contractors), and ensure sound financial management.

Key Responsibilities

Governance and Strategy

  • Maintain a close working relationship with the Board of Directors
  • Define strategic directions, overall planning, and timelines
  • Ensure accountability through the production of reports and activity summaries

Representation and Development

  • Represent the organization with government bodies, partners, and the artistic community
  • Develop and maintain institutional and strategic partnerships
  • Contribute to the creation of structuring projects and the enhancement of service offerings
  • Develop communication strategies and oversee their implementation by internal staff and external providers

Human Resources

  • Supervise a team of three employees, supported by numerous contractors
  • Contribute to growing the network of external consultants
  • Promote a culture of care, agility, and professional development

Administrative and Financial Management

  • Develop and implement funding strategies (partnerships, grants, sponsorships, and donations)
  • Oversee budgets, cash flow, bookkeeping (with external support), and preparation of financial statements (in collaboration with an accounting firm)
  • Ensure the financial viability of the organization, the efficiency of its services, and compliance with legal and regulatory obligations

Candidate Profile

  • Degree in arts management, administration, or a related field OR equivalent professional experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in cultural management
  • In-depth knowledge of the Quebec arts community and its networks
  • Excellent communication skills (fluency in French required; functional bilingualism an asset)
  • Proficiency in collaborative digital tools (Google Suite, Airtable)
  • Strong commitment to inclusion, diversity, and eco-responsibility
