Executive Director
Théâtre Desjardins is seeking a new Executive Director to lead its team in implementing the Theatre’s mission of presenting an ambitious artistic and cultural program, and to develop a long-term strategic vision for the organization.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director oversees the planning, coordination, and programming of all Theatre activities. They are responsible for managing human resources and ensuring the organization’s financial health, including optimizing funding and talent management. They supervise artistic programming and ensure the outreach and growth of the Theatre’s activities.
The ideal candidate has at least five (5) years of professional management experience, including two (2) years in a senior leadership role within a cultural organization, preferably in the performing arts. With a strong background in strategic planning and financial management, the candidate has a solid grasp of financial and operational issues and a good knowledge of funding programs, along with well-established connections with key stakeholders in the field. With excellent communication skills, they demonstrate inspiring leadership and strong team management abilities focused on collaboration.
General Administration:
- Develops and implements the Theatre’s strategic and development plans
- Establishes management policies and procedures
- Plans and organizes fundraising and development activities
- Manages the Theatre’s material assets in collaboration with the building owner
Financial Management:
- Prepares the annual budget in collaboration with the team
- Ensures close monitoring of budget execution
- Develops financial strategies to optimize resources
- Evaluates and manages key investments in equipment, infrastructure, and human resources
- Oversees applications for grants, donations, and sponsorships
- Negotiates and ensures compliance with agreements with founding partners (Cégep André-Laurendeau and the LaSalle Borough)
Human Resources Management:
- Assesses staffing needs
- Recruits staff under their supervision
- Ensures professional development and performance evaluations for staff under their responsibility
Artistic Programming Supervision:
- Oversees the development and rollout of the annual artistic program, in collaboration with the Assistant Artistic Director
Candidate Profile:
- University degree in management, administration, or a relevant field
- Five (5) years of management experience, including two (2) years in a leadership role within a cultural organization
- Strong expertise in financial and budget management
- In-depth understanding of the issues and challenges in the performing arts sector and its stakeholders
- Excellent interpersonal skills and team management abilities
- Leadership, dynamism, and strong communication skills
- Excellent command of French and a functional knowledge of English
Théâtre Desjardins is a fast-growing nonprofit organization. A major presenter located in Southwest Montreal, it offers a multidisciplinary program of nearly 200 shows annually, along with various private events.
The organization employs nearly 60 permanent and freelance staff members.
