The Presenting Network and My Positioning

Do you dream of touring Québec with your show? Do you want to learn more about how performance networks operate and their development cycles? This training will provide you with tools to approach the right presenters and connect with the venues that best match your work. It will also improve your general understanding of market development in Québec and its key players.

After identifying the characteristics of your artistic approach and the productions you wish to present on tour, the instructor will guide you in finding venues likely to host your projects.

You will also learn the essential stages in the life cycle and development of a show, with the goal of facilitating a professional relationship between you and the presenter.

Finally, the functioning of networks (ROSEQ, Réseau Centre, Réseau Scènes, Objectif Scène, Accès Culture, RIDEAU, etc.) will be analyzed, including programming timelines, criteria for organizing a tour, regional realities, and more.

A participant workbook, as well as practical exercises, will be available online during the training.

For artists and cultural workers who have little to no presenting experience or that are beginning their market development journey.

Instructor

Marie Bernier

A cultural worker for over 25 years, Marie Bernier has experience in both the presenting and producing sectors in various roles: booking agent for a producer, tour manager, programming assistant, multidisciplinary presenter in a municipal setting, summer programming coordinator, and school audience development officer.

Her combined experience in presenting and production informs her vision, which emphasizes the importance of understanding her partners’ realities. She contributes to the development of emerging professionals in arts presentation across disciplines by offering training and mentorship.

She coordinated the Jouer dehors program for La danse sur les routes du Québec until 2017 and currently coordinates the market development program for spoken word artists, Circuit Paroles Vivantes.

Invited-Expert

Marie-Michelle Darveau

Marie-Michelle Darveau is a dance artist active since 2014, working as a performer, teacher, creator, and cultural worker. She collaborates with various contemporary dance companies and broadens her practice through festivals, digital projects, corporate events, and television productions.

Since 2018, she has been the Dance Development Officer at Diffusion Hector-Charland, where she also oversees the Pôle Territoire Danse, a structure dedicated to promoting dance in Lanaudière, her home region.

Also trained in cultural mediation and aesthetic education, she brings a 360-degree perspective to the dance field, engaging in all stages of creation—from ideation to presentation. Rooted locally in Lanaudière while connected to Montreal’s creative scene, she is actively involved in the professional, community, recreational, and competitive dance spheres.
