Solo Jazz Dance Workshop with Daphné Lehoux Traversy
Discovery workshop presented as part of the 10th anniversary of La Swing Ambassade
Finding Your Jazz Uniqueness
Jazz was born from the need to reaffirm one’s identity through artistic medium. Specifically, jazz dance promotes self-expression thanks to the universal nature of movement. This discovery workshop encourages the search for uniqueness in dance. In other words, it invites participants to find their own “swag” to better radiate their personality.
To do this, one must dare to venture into the unknown. With improvisation as a central tool, these three creative spaces will be an opportunity to surprise oneself:
— Body isolation games will encourage loosening each part of the body to discover new ways of interpreting the music.
— “Call and response” exercises will invite maintaining a danced conversation by drawing inspiration from each other’s initiatives.
— The “Circle jam” will allow feeding off the group’s energy to find an additional source of creativity.
This workshop is intended to be an inclusive space where there are no bad ideas, only original avenues to explore.
