CONTENT // This session is inspired by a book that I read last year: Matters of Care. Speculative ethics in More than Human Worlds. 2017 by María Puig de la Bellacasa .
Here is a definition of care from the book that I used to create this session: “For Joan Tronto and Bernice Fischer, this (care) includes everything that we do to maintain, continue and repair “our world” so that we can live in it as well as possible. That includes our bodies, our selves, and our environment, all of which we seek to interweave in a complex, life-sustaining web (Tronto 1993, 103, emphasis added).”

Every class is based on a theme. The first class for example will be about listening – listening to the parc, to your body and to others and to the movements that emerge. Every theme adds but you can also take each class individually.

The class has three parts, a warm-up (15-30min), improvisation (30-45 min) and then composition (30-45min). We will warm-up with music and then use music for around 50% of the class. Some exercises include partnering or working in small groups. If we are working together in closer proximity we’ll wear masks, there is always an alternative without touch. Most of the work together is bouncing of a movement or an idea. We verbalise what we see. All instructions are given verbally, sometimes with an example. Sometimes the following exercise will be given while dancing, so we don’t cool down. The class comes with precise exercises that allow a lot of individual freedom in how to carry them out.

ACCESSIBILITY // For people hard-of-hearing I can print out the exercises of the class. For people with vision impairment or vision loss, feeling being in a safe space can be hard in the parc. I can imagine creating spaces for people with impaired vision when teaching in studio with tape. For people that are non-neuro normative I feel it would be up to them to judge if they could do it in an open space. There will be no touch and if looking at someone or being looked at is difficult I will propose an alternative. In studio I could also install a safer space, meaning a space in the back entrance where participants can go if they need a break. all exercises are adaptable.
