Beginner Solo Jazz | with Daphné Lehoux Traversy
With the Solo Jazz class, Daphné will introduce you to the fundamentals of jazz dance. This Afro-American cultural form emerged in the first half of the 20th century and has continued to evolve through numerous dance styles up to today.
You’ll explore both specific objectives and foundational concepts:
- Capture the groove unique to jazz dance
- Learn a variety of jazz steps (Stomp Off, Suzie Q, Fall Off the Log, Shorty George, Snake Hips, etc.)
- Experiment with basic steps and their variations (Charleston, Break Steps, Shuffle, Kicks, etc.)
- Follow a short choreographed sequence to consolidate your learning
- Develop your own style by feeding off the group’s energy in improvisation spaces
Warning: you may discover the creative potential of self-expression through the universal language of movement. Jazz isn’t just a dance—it’s a vibe.
Prerequisites: None, other than being ready to dive into a rich dance universe with an open mind and a cool attitude.
