RQD Unveils Its 2026–2028 Digital Transformation Strategy
Equipping the professional dance community with better digital tools and skills, strengthening digital discoverability and sovereignty, and building the sector’s collective capacity to navigate an ever-evolving digital landscape: the Regroupement québécois de la danse (RQD) has adopted a new Digital Transformation Strategy for 2026–2028.
The strategy was developed by Flavio Cardellicchio, Director of Digital Transformation and Strategic Partnerships at the RQD.

Digital technologies are reshaping how dance is created, produced, and presented, as well as how audiences discover artists and their work. Online performances and dance films are expanding opportunities to showcase and circulate artistic works, while digital creative tools and artificial intelligence are opening new avenues for artistic experimentation. At the same time, online platforms, structured data, and digital management tools can help improve the visibility of artists and organizations, deepen audience insights, and streamline organizational workflows.
These opportunities, however, come with tangible challenges: developing the necessary skills, securing funding for equipment and its maintenance, protecting copyright and personal information, ensuring fair compensation, and maintaining control over digital content and data. For the dance sector, the challenge lies in making informed choices that reflect the diversity of artistic practices, available resources, and the needs of dance professionals, ensuring that digital technologies contribute to the long-term vitality of artistic creation, presentation, and sector development.
In response to these transformations, the RQD is committed to supporting the dance community through a clear vision: harnessing digital technologies as a catalyst for the development, visibility, and empowerment of the dance sector.
Towards a More Discoverable, Skilled, Structured, and Responsible Dance Ecosystem
By 2028, the RQD aims to help build a dance sector that is better equipped to understand, navigate, and leverage digital technologies in ways that align with its needs, missions, and values.
This ambition is guided by four key objectives:
- Increase the visibility and digital discoverability of dance artists, works, and organizations;
- Strengthen the digital skills and competencies of dance professionals;
- Improve the organization and management of data, digital tools, and practices;
- Promote the responsible, ethical, and sustainable use of technology.
Seven Strategic Priorities to Drive Action
To turn this vision into tangible results, the 2026–2028 strategy is structured around seven strategic priorities:
- Enhance the digital discoverability of Québec dance;
- Develop digital skills and competencies across the sector;
- Foster research, experimentation, and innovation;
- Develop and support collaborative digital initiatives that strengthen the sector;
- Optimize the RQD’s digital tools, data management, and internal processes;
- Strengthen cybersecurity and data protection;
- Integrate digital sustainability and environmentally responsible practices.
These priorities will translate into concrete initiatives, including expanding the Mardis du Web (Web Tuesdays) series and specialized training opportunities; improving search engine visibility and digital discoverability across the dance sector; promoting dance film platforms and digital presentation initiatives; optimizing workplace tools and data management practices; and strengthening cybersecurity.
Empowering the Dance Community to Make Informed Digital Choices
At the heart of this strategy lies a fundamental conviction: digital transformation is not simply about adopting more technology. Rather, it is about strengthening the sector’s ability to understand technological change, identify tools that genuinely meet its needs, and integrate them meaningfully into artistic and organizational practices.
The RQD also seeks to strengthen connections between the dance community, research institutions, and technology ecosystems to encourage experimentation and knowledge sharing around emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality, immersive projection, and telepresence.
This approach will be guided by the principles of accessibility, cultural and digital sovereignty, collaboration, ethics, experimentation, and environmental responsibility.
An Evolving Strategy Through 2028
Implemented progressively through 2028, the Digital Transformation Strategy will enable the RQD to prioritize initiatives based on the dance community’s evolving needs, available resources, and measurable outcomes. Its implementation will follow a straightforward approach: act, measure, learn, and adapt.
Through this new strategy, the RQD intends to further strengthen its role as a sector-wide organization and catalyst for change: supporting dance professionals, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and expertise, building strategic partnerships, and contributing to the sector’s sustainable digital transformation.
Ultimately, beyond the technologies themselves, the goal remains unchanged: to empower the dance community to anticipate change, strengthen its capacity to act, and expand the visibility and reach of Québec dance across digital environments.
