Seeking a Dance Teacher
Service Contract Opportunity (Self-Employed Contractor) – Dance Instructor (Ages 12–17)
Mandate Summary
The Maison de jeunes de Saint-Léonard (MDJ) is seeking a passionate and engaging Dance Instructor as part of its Fall–Winter–Spring 2026–2027 programming to lead weekly dance workshops for youth aged 12 to 17.
The selected candidate will be responsible for planning and facilitating dance activities that encourage creativity, self-expression, confidence, and the joy of movement. Workshops may include choreography creation as well as learning dances inspired by current trends popular among youth, particularly those shared on social media platforms such as TikTok and others.
The contractor must be able to adapt workshop content to participants’ interests, needs, and skill levels while providing a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment.
In collaboration with the MDJ team, the instructor will help create a space that encourages participation, expression, and youth development. They must demonstrate the ability to build positive relationships with teenagers and maintain their engagement throughout the year.
Responsibilities
- Plan and lead a weekly dance workshop for youth aged 12–17;
- Create activities and choreographies adapted to the participants;
- Incorporate current dance trends and interests expressed by youth;
- Prepare the materials required for workshops;
- Ensure activities run smoothly and maintain participant safety;
- Listen to youth needs and interests related to the activity;
- Collaborate with the MDJ team on workshop coordination and delivery;
- Communicate any material or organizational needs;
- Provide brief feedback to the team regarding youth participation and workshop progress.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for someone with:
- Relevant experience in dance teaching or facilitation;
- Strong knowledge of current dance trends and platforms such as TikTok;
- Ability to lead and engage a group of teenagers;
- Autonomy, energy, and creativity;
- Ability to create a respectful, inclusive, and safe environment;
- Strong interpersonal skills and ease building positive connections with youth.
Required Experience
- Training or relevant experience in dance, dance education, or a related field;
- Portfolio, demo video, or examples of dance work demonstrating experience (strong asset);
- Experience working with youth or teenagers;
- CPR and first aid certification (asset).
Conditions
- Service contract (self-employed contractor);
- Contract period: September 2026 to June 2027;
- Schedule: one evening per week, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.;
- Compensation: starting at $30/hour, depending on experience.
