Exercising and maintaining a healthy lifestyle are excellent for mental health. Why? What happens in our bodies to make the effect so significant? The answer lies deep within the brain, where a network of cells controls the entry of nutrients and blocks unwanted substances: toxins, bacteria, and inflammatory molecules. Chronic stress weakens this barrier. A recent study shows that staying active and living in a stimulating environment not only helps prevent the harmful effects of stress but also helps repair this protective barrier.
