Artistic Director
Founded in 2005, Casteliers is a presenter specializing in puppet arts within the field of theatre. The organization hosts an annual international festival and a regular season of programming, welcomes artists in residence, and offers a wide range of cultural outreach activities to citizens of all generations.
Position Description
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Artistic Director is a member of the management team. They are responsible for shaping the artistic direction of Casteliers, in alignment with its mission, values, and strategic goals. They design, plan, and implement the programming of performances and activities, ensuring it reflects the richness and diversity of puppet arts practices. They actively contribute to the organization’s visibility among cultural, institutional, and public audiences.
Main Responsibilities
- Define the annual and multi-year artistic vision in line with Casteliers’ mission, values, and resources
- Monitor local, national, and international developments in puppet arts
- Develop the full annual programming, including the festival
- Select and support the artists and companies welcomed in residence
- Oversee the cultural outreach and audience development components
- Maintain and grow a network of contacts among artists, companies, presenters, and festivals
- Actively participate in and represent Casteliers at various professional and sector-wide events
- Take part in strategic planning and the evolution of the artistic mission
- Contribute to securing public and private funding
- Set up and lead the artistic advisory committee
- Contribute to communication activities related to the programming (press conferences, interviews) and help write communication materials
Candidate Profile
- In-depth knowledge of puppet arts in Quebec, Canada, and internationally
- Significant experience in artistic direction, programming, or curating
- Active professional network in the performing arts sector
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; bilingualism in French and English is essential
- Strong listening skills, a collaborative mindset, and diplomacy

Conditions
- Part-time annual position, averaging three days per week, depending on project pace and activity periods
- Regular in-office presence required, with the possibility of remote work
- Some travel required
- Start date: October 2025
- Annual salary based on experience and the organization’s current pay scale
