Simon Ampleman

Directeur artistique, chorégraphe et interprète, Ample Man Danse

The dance that animates me is a dance of encounters. I like the synergistic effect created by the meeting of people with the urban space, where the intimate and the public manage to get together to make live a meaningful artistic experience. I like to exploit all the acrobatic and poetic potential of the movement, and make it dialogue to create close relationships with the public, whether in the hall or in the outdoor places. It is a dance that is both «architectural» and instinctive, performative and sensitive.

Trained at the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal, Simon Ampleman never stopped perfecting his practice, notably by pursuing internships in Vienna (Impuls Tanz), Brussels (P.A.R.T.S.), Tel Aviv (Batsheva, CALQ Exchange) and New York. He performed for 7 years in the company Destins Croisés, which introduced him to different styles of urban dance, and also danced for Hélène Blackburn, Harold Rhéaume, Karine Ledoyen, Chantal Caron and the Imprudanses. A leading figure in artistic mediation in the dance world, he has led many creative projects in connection with several cultural, school and political institutions in Quebec and France (Paris, Dieppe, Caen, Tours). He was also spokesperson for the Festival Accès Danse 2018 and for the inter-collégiale de danse in 2019.
