Maude aka Møødz is a Montreal-based artist active in contemporary dance, whacking, street dance and club cultures. Trained at the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal, they had a turning point in their practice upon meeting Axelle Munezero, who introduced them to whacking—an art form that became a space of resistance and self-affirmation for their queer, gender-fluid identity. Their battle name, Møødz, reflects a fascination with the body’s transformations and the celebration of identity in all its dimensions. They also explore how the body is affected by its environment and how it reacts, adapts, and transforms.
As a performer and interpreter, they collaborate with WAFD: interdisciplinary creations, led by Helen Simard and Roger White, and participate in jams, battles, and performances locally and internationally. Co-founder of Supernature, a major whacking project and battle celebrating the dance’s queer roots, they also teach community classes for LGBTQIA2+ people and allies. Their practice explores authenticity, physicality, fluidity, metamorphosis, internal rhythms, and impulses, alongside theatre, film, and fashion, emphasizing spontaneous movement, raw expression, and sharing.
