The RDQ’s governance structure is composed of three governing bodies:

  •  The General Assembly, consisting of all professional individual and corporate members;
  •  The Board of Directors, consisting of 13 directors: 10 of whom are elected by the General Assembly (five elected by and from among the individual professional members, the other five elected by and from among the corporate professional members), and three of whom are co-opted by the elected directors;
  •  The Executive Board, whose five members are appointed by the Board of Directors to the positions of Chair, Vice-Chairs, Secretary and Treasurer.

Commitees

STANDING COMMITTEES

BOARD COMMITTEES

Governance Committee

This board of directors’ standing committee oversees the proper governance of the organization. To meet its objectives, the Governance Committee develops and recommends to the BOD administrative regulations and RQD governance policies, evaluates the BOD and ensures the ongoing turnover within the BOD, and monitors the application of RQD governance policies.

Mobilization and Consensus-building Committee

This board committee supports the executive director in developing mobilization and consensus-building strategies and prioritizing files.

Membership Committee

This board committee is tasked with helping review the RQD membership policy, and occasionally processing membership applications, as well as requests to change membership category or update membership criteria.

Eco-responsibility Committee

This BOD committee documents and promotes the adoption of eco-responsible practices across the dance sector. Its mandate is to promote sustainable development and an eco-responsible awareness across the dance community and within the RQD.

In 2021, this committee is made up of the following RQD directors and members: Lucy Fandel, Lük Fleury, Nicolas Patry and Isabelle Poirier. Also collaborating on the committee is RQD Director of Communications Coralie Muroni.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

Technical Classes Committee

Chaired by Professional Development Coordinator Daniel Bastien, this committee is made up of the following member-performers: Joannie DouvilleKaren FennellJames PhillipsAnne-Flore de RochambeauAlexis Trépanier and Antoine Turmine.

This committee is mandated to identify desired teaching approaches and recommend teachers, while ensuring that RQD programming objectives are aligned with the classes offered across the community as well as the participants’ suggestions and professional development needs and the evolution of practices.

2020-2021 COMMITEES

During the summer and fall of 2020, the RQD has tasked four working groups with developing a plan that will allow the sector to survive the unprecedented crisis brought about by the coronavirus pandemic and ensure the recovery of all its components. Their work will consist of drawing up a detailed picture of the situation, determining the data to collect in order to improve it, and identify potential solutions to discuss with the dance community.

Artistic outcomes in the dance sector

This committee is divided into two sub-committees: Cooperation, Collaboration & Knowledge-sharing and Stronger Presence for Dance in Quebec. These work cells, in and of themselves, are potential solutions to the issues identified. The first focuses on elements of concern to the dance sector as a whole, the review and transformation of models (touring, funding of organizations, etc.) and the possibility of sharing financial, material or intellectual resources. The second cell is dedicated to the development of the dance sector across Quebec with the objective of lending it a stronger presence, particularly outside of major cities, and compensating for the decrease in international activities.

Labour relations specific to creation

This committee will concentrate on issues specific to changes in labour relations, including issues of responsibility when it comes to the application of sanitation measures, in relation to the sense of ethics we bring our personal lives and to our work as artists. It will consider suggestions for contractual clauses related to new forms of dissemination, and will also suggest means of promoting dialogue between employers and employees, for example in the event that someone presents symptoms.

Teaching and training

While several schools and studios are working to establish their own measures, some general issues remain. These include attracting and receiving international students, the competitiveness of free virtual classes, and the evaluation and acquisition of competencies.

Strategic committee

This committee has a mandate to oversee the work of the three other committees, synthesize part of it, and identify strategic inroads that will help guide the work of the RQD and inform representations with governments.
