Chorégraphe, Interprète

Biography

Dance is La Roseline's essence, her energy, and her refuge. Breathing to live, and dancing to be. La Roseline (Roseline Dorcin), a passionate artist born in Plaisance, Haiti, discovered her calling in flamenco as an adult, quickly rising to international acclaim. After receiving a singing scholarship to the 2012 Toronto International Flamenco Festival, she traveled to Spain, the birthplace of flamenco, to study at the prestigious Cristina Heeren School. There, she immersed herself in the traditions and nuances of this ancestral art, learning from renowned cantaora Ana Gómez and maestra La Concha Vargas.

Returning to Toronto, La Roseline dedicated herself to flamenco studies at various schools, including ARTE Flamenco, refining her technique and developing her unique style. Driven by a thirst for knowledge, she participated in intensive workshops with leading figures in contemporary flamenco, such as Leonor Leal, Olga Pericet, and Manuel Liñan. She also undertook two extended stays in Madrid (2016 and 2017), studying castanets with Maria Torres at Escuela Amor de Dios and flamenco at Instituto Flamenco La Truco, further expanding her artistry and mastery.

n 2022 and 2024, La Roseline received dance residencies from Montréal Arts Interculturels, where she co-choreographed and performed in the critically acclaimed QUEERDO Love Cabaret. Her moving and heartfelt performances have captivated audiences in Toronto and Montreal in productions such as Essencia Flamenco and Fragmentos. A significant milestone in her career came in 2023, when she was invited by Image Quilt Production to perform in Rage & Honey: A Night of Black Flamenco at the Actor Studio Theater in New York City. In 2024, she participated in the Festival de Notre-Dame-De-Grâce Imagine Monkland and shared her passion by leading children's dance workshops at the Benny Library.

La Roseline explores the diverse facets of flamenco and Spanish dance, committed to fostering connections between flamenco and non-Western dance artists. She is currently developing her first full-length work, La Muñeca Prohibida (The Forbidden Doll), an ambitious project blending Indo-Flamenco influences. Collaborating with Thejaswini Vijayakkumar, she offers a vision of love that transcends physical attraction, exploring co-existence and the acceptance of others in their full and unique identities.
