From August 5 to 15, two workshop series are open to professionals as part of the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal’s Summer Intensive.

This choreographic workshop offers a vigorous and intimate process that challenges participating collaborators on conceptual, physical, and personal levels in an ongoing search for our true essence as artists and individuals. The process invites collective questioning of political and philosophical ideals as entry points to creation. It challenges each artist to embody and deconstruct unusual states — as both mental and physical situations. We examine how these states are internalized and externalized in coexistence with one another, aiming to arrive at a physical language that is rhythmic, transparent, dynamic, virtuosic, and vulnerable.

Choreographically, the work of AP&A seeks presence rather than performance, through a juxtaposition of complex ideas explored in the body’s physical potential as unusual states. The workshop will include various improvisation exercises to explore one’s own physical and conceptual potentials.
