Nuances du Kathak presenté par Veils of Bollywood

Join renowned dance artist Usha Gupta for a special workshop exploring the beauty and expressive power of Indian classical dance. Originally from Jalandhar, India, Usha began studying dance and music at the age of four and has since become a highly respected ambassador of cultural diversity in Edmonton and across Canada.

 

In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the foundations of traditional Indian dance, including rhythm, storytelling, and expressive movement. Drawing from her extensive experience as a dancer, choreographer, and teacher, Usha will guide participants through movement exercises and cultural insights that highlight the richness of South Asian performing arts.

 

This session is open to all levels and offers a unique opportunity to learn from a prolific artist dedicated to sharing and preserving Indian dance and music traditions while fostering cultural exchange in Canada.

 

Bio: Usha Gupta began her dance and music journey in India at the age of four and is now recognized as one of Edmonton’s leading ambassadors of cultural diversity. As the Founder and Artistic Director of Usha Dance Entourage and Usha Kala Niketan, she has toured Canada and seven major Indian cities, with notable performances presented by the Brian Webb Dance Company and Kala Nidhi Fine Arts. Supported by major arts councils since 2004, Usha Gupta hosted and performed in the renowned Romeo and Juliet (2016), choreographed by the legendary Pandit Birju Maharaj. Her many honors include two Salute to Excellence awards, induction into Edmonton’s Hall of Fame, and the prestigious Governor General’s Queen Elizabeth Award, presented by Lieutenant Governor Salma Lakhani—all of which represent just a glimpse of her enduring legacy.
