Gabriela Jovian-mazon

Chorégraphe, Enseignant.e, Travailleur.se culturel.le, Interprète

Gabriela Jovian-Mazon, aka Ellégance, is a playful, theatrical, and character-based dance artist driven by discovery, collectivity, and authenticity. Her background includes Mexican folkloric dance, a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, and experience as a puppeteer. Her performance career highlights include the American tour of Scooby-Doo and The Lost City of Gold, the Quebec tour of Michel Courtemanche’s show Michel!, and work with the contemporary dance company Ample Man Danse.

Since 2016, Gabriela has immersed herself in Punking, a club culture dance that began in the 1970s, under the mentorship of Axelle “Ebony” Munezero. This practice has led her to train, battle, and perform internationally in Los Angeles, New York, Mexico, Italy, and Greece, while remaining an active contributor to the Montreal scene.

As a choreographer, she draws from Punking, authentic jazz, mime, and puppetry to construct eccentric physical worlds where character, intention, and gesture shape the movement language. In 2023, she presented a trilingual, multi-style solo, Raices, at the Festival de Danse Contemporaine de Sherbrooke. In 2025, she presented Find Your Light, a Punking work, during Les Soirées 100Lux, co-presented by Tangente.

Gabriela is an original, versatile, and theatrical artist excited to continue exploring the world of creation. Guided by the belief that sharing lived experiences and cultural lineages strengthens community, she creates works that celebrate identity, storytelling, and the power of collective resilience.
