Laundry of Legends II

Laundry of Legends II is part of a series of performances about “death poems.” These are singular texts, which, when embodied by dancing bodies, turn into oracular, time-traveling machines powered by death. These poems emerge whenever there is a gathering. They are born in the body and reconstituted in us in fragments.

Death poetry is a particular form of political healing; baroque, cruel and cosmological. It does not produce hedonistic objects, gratuitous ornaments, but rather offers hospitality, companionship, giving concrete indications of how to surrender, how to betray death, how to play with absence.

For this piece, Etel Adnan and her poem The Arab Apocalypse, tells us where to look – the way children dance, or how corpses maintain invisible movements, or when bodies are crouched, trembling, bent in threatening postures.
