Susannah Haight, is a freelance contemporary dancer/choreographer based in Montréal. Her earliest exposure to movement and physical expression was as a competitive rhythmic gymnast. Her fluidity, flexibility and performance skills were honed at a very young age, under the tutelage of Olympic coach Danuta Smiechowski. In her teen years, she successfully auditioned to attend Canada’s oldest arts based high school, Etobicoke School of the Arts (ESA) as a dance major. In her graduating year, she was the recipient of the « The Edward Lam Memorial Scholarship » presented by internationally acclaimed Canadian design firm Moss & Lam. Her ESA experience and recognition from artists outside the world of dance, encouraged her to pursue a career as a dance ‘artist’.
Susannah has had a variety of professional dance experiences – from company dancer with Projet Fly 2019(Artistic Director Andrea Pena) and 14 lieux(Artistic Director Martin Messier), freelance dancer with Compagnie Marie Chouinard, music videos, dance films and acting/performing in CBC series“Frankie Drake”. Susannah continues to work on independent artistic projects and is focused on combining her versatility as a dancer with her interests in other forms of visual art such as photography, film, music and fashion. She has been commissioned by international fashion designers, Paloma Wool –Barcelona, Spain and also KARA NYC, New York, to produce (direct, edit, choreograph and perform) short performance art films to be utilized in their social media advertising campaigns. In 2019 Susannah worked with Montréal’s Telescope Films as on set assistant Choreographer. She has also created many short films to showcase her own dance and choreography.
Putting her whole heart into her work, is what motivates her. She feels the greatest compliment she could receive is to be called an “Artist”. Susannah lives by Marc Chagall’s words ” Art must be an expression of love or it is nothing”.
