Teoma Naccarato is a contemporary dancer, choreographer and pedagogue with passion for interdisciplinary and inter-media creation. Her research focuses on the interplay of creative practice with theory, harnessing dance and multi-media to facilitate personal and social awareness and growth.

Biographie

 

Teoma Naccarato is a contemporary dancer, choreographer and pedagogue with passion for interdisciplinary and inter-media creation.  Her research focuses on the interplay of creative practice with theory, harnessing dance and multi-media to facilitate personal and social awareness and growth.

Naccarato received her BFA in Contemporary Dance from Concordia University in 2004 and an MFA in Dance & Technology at The Ohio State University in 2011. In Autumn 2011, Teoma was a visiting lecturer in the Department of Dance at the Ohio State University, and the interdisciplinary production manager for the Experimental Media and Movement Arts Lab (EMMA). For spring 2012 she joined the sunny Florida State University as a visiting professor, teaching courses in dance technique and composition.

In June 2012 Naccarato completed a month-long research and creation residency in multimedia performance at the Experimental Media and Movement Arts Lab in Columbus, Ohio.  Next April 2013 her newest creation Experience #1167 will premiere at the Time Wave Festival in Manchester, UK. Over the past decade Naccarato has presented choreography at venues across Canada including Studio 303, Series 808, Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival, Vue sur la Releve Festival, KickSeries, Toronto Festival of Independent Dance Arts, Montreal Fringe Festival, and more.  Internationally Naccarato has shared work at Columbus Dance Theater in Ohio, the DanceNow Festival in New York City, and the Hemispheric Institute Encuentros in in Buenos Aires, Argentina (2007) and Bogota, Columbia (2009).  Recent choreographic credits include Experience #1167 (2012), Beneath the pavement, an ocean (2012), Gently between us (2011), and Exposure (2010). Naccarato has also created a significant body of Dance for Camera projects disseminated by web and at festivals in Canada and the US.

Naccarato has performed nationally and internationally with choreographers Michael Montanaro, Marianne Desjardins, Catherine Castonguay, Ilona Dougherty, Ming Shen Gu, Lillian Skove, Meghan Durham Wall, and others.
