"...Classical Indian dance is highly codified and culturally specific. Cultural differences allowed me a more disinterested study of the artistic form, and eventually the freedom of experimenting with the art in my work. Classical Indian dance has a clear narrative basis and theatricality. It concerns Hindu myths and is originally a religious act. In my work, I use narrative with mudras, abhinay, and rasa – hand, facial, and emotional expressions. However, my narratives concern archetypal human experiences. I have always been passionate about dance. I trust its power to enliven the imaginative expression of the self or a collective through the beauty of human body. Dance has been my vehicle for sharing stories and having a dialogue about the universality of human experiences, which transcend cultural differences .."  Manijeh Ali
